Subject: 2019-2020 Personal Parkng Permits

The Board of Governors has approved parking rates for the next fiscal year.  Effective May 1, 2019 there will be no increase to the cost of an annual permit.  Annual parking permit pricing will remain aligned with the reduced monthly bus pass rate for University employees, which has been negotiated with Guelph Transit.

Effective May 1st, CPS will be implementing changes based on a parking review that was conducted during 2018. The most significant changes are as follows:

  1. Updates to the Parking Regulations with increased fines and firmer penalties for repeat offenders. The new regulations can be found on the CPS website and will not longer be available in paper copy.
  2. Elimination of the Auxiliary permit.
  3. Students will be assigned to blue permit areas only (P7, P13, P14/15, P17, P19 & P30).
  4. Permits can no longer be sold without a valid license plate number attached along with a student number and/or employee number.

We are confident that these changes will help to alleviate the capacity issues the campus has been experiencing.

Parking will continue to focus on capital improvements.  Projects will include:  accessible signage, campus wayfinding, annual asphalt and concrete maintenance/repair program, lighting, landscaping improvements, storm sewer systems and safety related initiatives.  CPS will be working towards implementing new technology such as License Plate Recognition Software and systems to allow the operation to be entirely cashless by May 2020.

Funding will continue to be provided to the overall University Operating Budget.

The University is committed to reducing the number of single occupant motor vehicle trips to/from campus, actively promoting the use of alternative modes of transportation including; walking, cycling and public transit.  Reduced rate employee bus passes for Guelph Transit remain available at our office on Trent Lane.  Information on our various transit providers is available at www.parking.uoguelph.ca.

Transportation & Permit Alternatives:

  1. Book of 10 daily parking passes ($100.00) or 5 daily parking passes ($50.00).
